Ian De Souza Appointment - ANSA Merchant Bank

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ian Ronald De Souza as the Managing Director of ANSA Merchant Bank Limited (Trinidad), effective January 8th, 2024. He will be entrusted with the management of daily operations and the strategic leadership of the executive team, aimed at executing both strategic and operational objectives.

With an extensive career spanning over 35 years in the banking sector, Mr. De Souza brings a wealth of progressive experience. His distinguished tenure at the Republic Bank Group culminated in his retirement in October 2017, having served as Executive Director and Managing Director of Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited. Throughout his career there, he held key executive positions such as General Manager - Risk Management, General Manager - Corporate and Investment Banking, President - Republic Bank (DR) S.A. in the Dominican Republic and Managing Director - Republic Finance & Merchant Bank Limited (FINCOR).

Post-retirement, Mr. De Souza assumed pivotal roles at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados. Serving as Executive Director and CEO of the Cave Hill School of Business and Management, he also took on the mantle of Professor of Practice, Banking and Finance, within the Department of Management Studies.

In subsequent ventures, Mr. De Souza founded Advice Financial Co. Ltd, an advisory practice specializing in corporate finance, debt management, and corporate turnarounds. Notably, in his capacity as Consultant and Project Lead, he played a crucial role in successfully overseeing Republic Bank’s acquisition of Scotiabank’s operations in the Eastern Caribbean, St. Maarten, and the British Virgin Islands. Additionally, he spearheaded the restructuring and reorganization of CAPITA Financial Services Inc.

Mr. De Souza's academic qualifications include a BSc. in Economics, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management, and an Executive MBA from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor, and holds certifications in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination. Furthermore, he is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme.
